North Texas Presbyterian Cursillo
Cursillo is only three days long, but it lasts a lifetime!

Who?

Cursillo is intended for Presbyterians who already have faith in God and who seek continued growth in that faith and commitment.  Anyone who is a member of, or has an affiliation with, a Presbyterian church may participate in a North Texas Presbyterian Cursillo (NTPC).  Cursillo is not designed to convert from unbelief to belief.  It is intended for those who seek continued growth in their faith and commitment.

What?

Presbyterian Cursillo is a purposefully designed method for renewing the faith of individuals.  "Cursillo" (pronounced Kur-see-yo) means a short course in living the Christian faith and is designed to provide a framework for the development of Christians in the local church and in the world.  A Cursillo is a three day weekend retreat filled with short talks, music, fellowship, small group discussion and joyful experiences.  But there is so much more.  Perhaps you have heard of Walk to Emmaus, Tres Dias, or Upper Room weekends sponsored by other denominations.  These weekends all provide similar experiences.  North Texas Presbyterian Cursillo is simply the Presbyterian version sponsored by the local Presbyterian community.  The weekends are sponsored and led by lay men and women, with the participation and spiritual guidance of ordained Presbyterian ministers.  The activities provide and encourage them to take this newfound relationship back to their home, work and church environments.

Why?

The Cursillo experience is not about worshipping on Sunday mornings.  It is about living the Christian life everyday, no matter where you are.  It is not just about a weekend - it is intended to last a lifetime.  After attending a Cursillo weekend, participants are encouraged to join small groups to renew enthusiasm, affirm one another's faith journey, share experiences and encourage one another in the Christian life.  Reformation and renewal in Christ are indispensable to our participation in the unfolding and expansion of God's Kingdom.  Presbyterian Cursillo is a vial and participation in the unfolding and expansion of God's Kingdom.  Presbyterian Cursillo is a vital and exciting resource for renewal, and Presbyterian men and women are encouraged to participate no matter where they are in their faith journey.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of Cursillo?

During the three days of a Cursillo weekend, participants form a small Christian community.  They worship, study and share with one another while gaining a personal awareness of their faith and the joys and responsibilities that is a result of that faith.  The purpose of Cursillo is for the participants to discover a new and exciting relationship with Christ and to encourage them to take this newfound relationship back to their home, work and church environments.  The objective of Cursillo is to inspire, challenge and equip each local church member to Christian action in their local church, in their home, in their place of work and in their community.

Who goes to Cursillo?

The weekend is not designed to convert from unbelief to belief.  It is intended for those who already have faith and who seek continued growth in that faith and commitment.  The goal is to guide participants into an even closer and more personal relationship with Christ and to heighten their joy, deepen their faith and invigorate their life in Christ.  Cursillo intends to return the participants to all the environments in which they have influence and to affect those environments in a Christian manner.  Men and women-single and married persons are all welcome.

How can I attend Cursillo?

Simply fill out an application (found in your church office) and mail it to the Registrar.  Anyone who has previously attended can provide you with details or you may send an email to kimstanley@fpclongview.org or karenharris@fpclongview.org for more information.

How much does it cost?

The cost for the weekend is $175.00 per person.  This amount covers lodging, meals and use of the retreat center.  Since the staff pay their own expenses and much of the material used during the weekend is contributed by the local Cursillo community, costs are kept to a minimum.  Full or partial scholarships are available on a confidential basis.  Contact Suzi White in the church office for more information.

What happens after Cursillo is over?

The weekend is only the beginning.  What you experience during the weekend is intended to be taken and put into practice in local congregations and communities.  You will be supported by many others who have attended a Cursillo weekend.  If you chose, you will have the opportunity to meet weekly in small groups to reinforce one another and to share the Christian experience.  Larger groups meet from time to time to share the joy and fellowship of their faith.  The objective of Cursillo is to inspire, challenge and equip each local church member to Christian action in their local church, in their home, in their place of work and in their community.

Is Cursillo for me?

Only you can make this determination.  Seek God's guidance in making your decision.  Most who participate return to their home churches ready to share this wonderful gift form God.  Prayerfully consider attending a weekend that will enrich your faith and your life.
