Description
Position: Associate Pastor
Purpose:
Provide vision, direction, and pastoral leadership to First
Presbyterian Church’s ministry in accordance with the guidance of
Scripture and of the Presbyterian and Reformed tradition.
Accountability:
Reports to the Senior Pastor.
Responsibilities:
·
Serve as the primary
staff resource for the Adult Education Committee and its
subcommittees.
·
Teach regularly in
programs for adults, youth, and children such as: Sunday school,
Pastors’ Class, Confirmation, Summer Educational Program.
·
Facilitate small groups
including at least one Lent in the Living Room annually.
·
Teach in training and
support events for teachers of adult Sunday school classes,
facilitators of small groups, and other teachers/facilitators as
scheduled.
·
Provide vision,
direction, planning, and support as the primary staff resource for
programs for adults in Christian Formation and Discipleship including
but not limited to Adult Sunday school, Lenten and Advent Devotional
Guides, Men’s and Women’s Bible studies.
·
Initiate, plan, conduct,
and evaluate new programs of Bible study and spiritual growth.
·
Preach and serve as
liturgist for worship services as assigned.
·
Officiate at weddings
and funerals as assigned and provide counseling for those couples and
families.
·
Participate regularly in
prospective member and new member events as part of the pastoral team.
·
Visit in hospitals as
part of the pastor’s hospital visitation program.
·
Member of Program Staff.
·
Staff resource to the
Christian Education Committee and its subcommittees.
Special
Understandings:
·
The Associate Pastor will
coordinate and collaborate with the Director of Children’s Ministries,
and the Director of Youth Ministries to
provide
leadership.
·
All Administrative Assistants are available to the Associate Pastor.
Evaluation:
The Pastor
will complete a performance review at least annually. The Associate
Pastor will complete performance reviews of any Administrative Assistant
as directed by the Senior Pastor.
