| You weren't there. All of us weren't there. but something splendid, magnificent happened in 1873. THEY, the founders, began our great Church. It cradled our newborn spirits, nurtured our growth as Christians, stirred our consciences, washed away our fears. It has been a pillar of strength and a light of goodness in the community. Millions of individual worship experiences have carried the Christian message from the sanctuary into life's proving ground. Millions of hours of unheralded service have been given by humble Christians, an offering to Longview and the wider world. You loved the music. You were quickened by the preaching. You loved one of the ministers, or perhaps several of them. You infused your life into the boys and girls of a Sunday School class...or you were one of the restless crew.
